INSTALATION
Conceived exclusively for Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor, this site-specific installation by Diego Villalba draws inspiration from one of Formentor's most iconic landscapes: the pine trees that grow at the water's edge, firmly rooted in the land while the waves continuously break against their trunks.
From this powerful visual metaphor, the artist reflects on the human condition, our capacity to adapt, and the way we endure through the passage of time.
The installation is built around four essential concepts, Humanization, Integration, Resilience, and Persistence, expressed through paintings, ceramics, murals, and site-specific interventions.
Each work enters into dialogue with Formentor's natural and cultural surroundings, creating a connection between landscape, memory, and identity.
More than an exhibition, the installation offers an immersive experience to be explored and inhabited, where art and nature converge, inviting visitors to reflect on their relationship with the world around them.
Starting from the image of the Pine of Formentor, and in direct dialogue with the poem by Costa i Llobera, Villalba has created an installation that unfolds through four interconnected chapters, conceived as the four seasons of a single life cycle. It is not an exhibition to be observed from a distance, but an experience to be walked through, inhabited, and absorbed.
1. HUMANIZATION | Formentor Seafront Walk
The ability to coexist with difference, not as an act of virtue but of necessity. Humanization is the recognition of the fragility, memory, and sensitivity that define us, seeing humanity before categories.
2. INTEGRATION | Ceramics
Learning to exist within the limits of our surroundings through adaptation rather than control. The ceramic works evoke the arid soil into which the pine extends its roots, drawing nourishment from the light despite the harshness of its environment.
3. RESILIENCE | Floral and Pine Murals
Neither the flowers nor the pine are meant for this landscape, yet they endure. Resilience is found in stone shaped by time, in the tree that bends as it reaches for the light, and in the memory that survives loss. It is the ability to remain grounded in uncertainty without losing one's identity.
4. PERSISTENCE | Soul of Formentor
Water is an element that does not belong to humankind, yet it is within it that we continue to exist without certainty. Persistence is not about mastering our environment, but about remaining true to ourselves in a place that does not adapt to us.
Four ideas, four seasons, four chapters of a single journey. By the end of the experience, the hope is that every visitor leaves carrying something that deepens their understanding of themselves and of those around them.
